I was just searching on Google and I came across this: http://www.hep.afrl.af.mil/HEPF/Publications/TR/2003-0024.pdf

I haven't read it fully yet, but it looks like it's a paper on effective ways of combating tiredness in the U.S. Air Force. If you search in the document, you find Claudio Stampi's name in the citations. It says on the first page in a little box that they don't mind distribution of it, so it could be added as an article on this site without legal repercussions.

I mentioned this because Wikipedia's polypasic sleep article mentions the U.S. military's consideration of polyphasic sleep, but failed to cite any sources (before I edited it yesterday).

No, it's not. I just checked it from another computer. Do you have Adobe Reader? It's required to view PDF files...

Well, doesnīt matter now.

btw.: howīs your progress with Dymaxion going? Any success yet? Your posts in the forum are inconclusive.

I'm a high school senior, which means that I have a rigid daily schedule to abide by, and the last opportunity that I had to take on any sort of ultrashort sleep schedule was this last summer. I'm fortunate, though: Most people my age have to worry about sleeping enough hours each night to grow properly (growth hormone is secreted during sleep stages 3 and 4). I, on the other hand, am naturally growth hormone deficient, meaning that I inject artificial growth hormone nightly to compensate.

I must admit that I've had some bad times trying to take on the Dymaxion sleep schedule before the summer ended. Hallucinations and other effects of sleep deprivation, I mean. Some examples:
1) Often, I clearly saw a ghost hovering outside a window.
2) When I sat down, there appeared to be a huge hole in my arm, with some cobwebs in the empty space.
3) I heard soft rock music playing from another room in the house at night, but no radios or anything were on.
4) I once was so sleep-deprived that I went into REM with my eyes open, no joke. My arm was suspended in midair at first, but then I saw it drop to my leg involuntarily. I think I woke up a few minutes later.
5) I was told that the whole Dymaxion endeavor ended with me running upstairs and falling asleep in my bed, which I don't remember.

If you go back to the original article (http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,774680,00.html in which Buckminster Fuller talked about Dymaxion sleep, he only said that he slept for 30 minutes every 6 hours. I'm sure he didn't mean for anyone to take that statement as absolute fact, or else he would have written a book about it or something. I'm sure that he felt no need to be absolutely rigid with his sleep schedule or keep from having a full night's sleep every now and then. He mentions in the article that he only started the 30 minutes every 6 hours thing because it felt natural to him. In other words, it probably won't work for people that it doesn't come naturally to. I stumbled upon this chart a while ago: http://polyphasic.googlegroups.com/web/Polyphasic%20Sleep%20Theory.png?gda=zdn1tEwAAAC2mUE81pPe6juiqiFtBeYBbyIsLmuRdRPM3FPgfQRvYmG1qiJ7UbTIup-M2XPURDQPd0SSLAj0uJJdowRr81dQ24w4ZILQJPmwXyQhycTkqw It shows the relationship between the number of naps per day and the amount of sleep required in that time, and is very interesting, I think. After all of this enlightenment consideration, and failure to adapt on my part, I do not believe that the Dymaxion sleep schedule is applicable for most people.

Good luck with that. I'd be elated to know that it works.

Well, I still got a few aces in the whole, so Iīm rather optimistic.
But well, only time will tell.

btw.: there ARE records of people who did it sucessfully. You just need to dig real deep into the google group of polyphasic sleepers.
So far, I count four people who did it. (including Fuller)

I remember finding a topic on the polyphasic Google group where a person said that he could get it to work for a month. Would you mind providing links?

No, I wouldnīt but I donīt have any right now.....
Didnīt bookmark anything, just found one or two referrences to people who claimed to have adapted to Dymaxion, which was all I wanted to see.

I can dig them up again, but I doubt they will tell us anything new.
From what I remember these people didnīt stay on Dymaxion for long.

If I every try polyphasic sleep again, it won't be on the Dymaxion schedule. I'm still experiencing the effects of trying to adapt. I am unable to sleep for more than 6 hours at a time, ever. When I try to, it takes more than 30 minutes to get back to sleep, and I end up feeling lousy in the morning. It's strange: If I only get 6 hours of sleep at night, I'm awake but not completely functional mentally. If I get more, I'm tired throughout the day but can think clearer.

Also, I've developed the weird habit of jerking awake at any time during the night. I had never did that before I attempted to go polyphasic.
