On the monophasic sleep pattern I would get really determined at night before I went to sleep about what I was going to do the next day. The early morning run was one of those things. After having such a strong mindset I would go to sleep and 6-8 hours later, I become a completely different person, mainly lethargic, lame, and weak-willed. With polyphasic sleep there's not enough time for my willpower to get whittled down while I sleep so i can stick with things much easier. It's so much better than monophasic sleep, for me anyways. Sucks that more people don't do it.
Early morning runs was something I always wanted to get into, as I've always been a late night jogger and it perks me up too much to fall asleep right after. But I could NEVER drag myself out of bed for them, it's hard enough to get up early but to get yourself up to go running is just impossible.
However when polyphasic sleeping I was either running, walking or biking most mornings from 5-6am
